On Monday, February 12, 2018 Johnson School had the pleasure of participating in the 19th Annual Celebration of the Arts, at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, CT. Our school honorees are fifth graders Lola Huseby and Cris Menendez. Both students were recognized for their outstanding citizenship, cooperative skills, and artistic ability in the performing and/or visual arts. Both Lola and Cris are extraordinary students with exceptional skills in the arts. They are admirable individuals who are fair, honest, kind, compassionate, and helpful. They often exceed the expectations of their teachers and they are terrific role models for their peers. Ms. McCue, Ms. Carpentier, Mrs. Liquori, Mrs. Claridge, and the students’ families attended this wonderful event to celebrate the efforts and achievements of these two fine individuals. Congratulations to you both! Every year thousands of local artists participate in this wonderful contest to promote and encourage recycling. 5th grade FIRST place Carlos Veldez SECOND place Bella Caruso THIRD place Lola Huseby ************** 4th Grade FIRST place Gabriel Bermeo SECOND place Jaden Chestnut Good luck to Carlos and Gabriel at the County wide level of the competition! Every year students have the opportunity to create a poster design with the theme of Fire Prevention. This is an annual initiative that I participate in with our town fire marshal, Mr. Tom Galliford.
Fourth grade participates as an option, typically outside of the art room. Fifth graders do the contest as a class assignment in Art. So, if you notice your children talking more about Fire safety, dangers, preventative measures, creating a meeting place, practicing a fire drill... My unit on Fire prevention may be why :) The packet that students may use for information and inspiration is located here. The informative Fire Prevention videos that the students have seen in Art class are also located here; Video 1 and Video 2. Please support our school initiative in teaching our children how to be safe in the event of a fire related emergency. Thank you!! |
