Fantasy Creatures
Students created these fantastic fantasy creatures by starting with glue art techniques. On black paper, children used glue to make their outlines, detailing features, and focal elements permanently black. After the glue had dried, they enjoyed soft and hard chalk pastels of a variety of pigments to create color, patterns, and texture to their creatures.
The children used a myriad of materials for their backgrounds. They used a variety of cutting and paper punching tools to manipulate their scenes. In addition, the students were encouraged to utilize and add other materials to their work, including yarn, shells, beads, foam shapes, buttons, sequins, and more. Allowing the children to explore a wide assortment of tools and techniques enabled them to pick and choose the best supplies to support, frame, and house their creatures.
It was especially exciting to see the various solutions children discovered as they explored the potentials of the materials at their disposal. The children thoroughly enjoyed this project and their enthusiasm is evident in their picture.
