Library Media Center Stools
Student Artists Paint More Stools
This year, Fourth and Fifth grade students were commissioned to design and paint stools for two rooms. After seeing the successful results of the “Artist Inspired Stools”, Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Fildes both asked for class sets.
The set of stools for Johnson School’s computer lab celebrate inventors and inventions. The students chose from a wide selection of topics that highlight famous people and the ideas that have changed our world through the ages.
The theme for the media center’s set centered around award winning books. The students chose from a large selection of honored books and beloved story characters.
The stool provided an extra challenge with its rounded surface, legs and rungs, all of which needed to be incorporated into the painting. Children quickly realized that they would have to rely heavily on their creative abilities as well as their painting skills.
This was an after school community service project. The children spent 15 – 25 hours from beginning to end. They used acrylic paints and then the seats were sealed to protect the artwork and make them functional.
After school art classes are always a big hit at Johnson School. It’s a great chance for the kids to spend time with friends. Their successful results reflect their ability to imagine, create, and express themselves in a wonderfully appealing fashion.
