Fifth graders have begun the school year with Dream Catchers. They learned about the historical meaning of Dream Catchers in the Native American Culture. The main art concepts we focused on included radial designs, repetition, pattern, and unity. Students also explored zentangles and mandalas as they developed their own original designs. They were invited to explore different ways to color and finish their pieces. I showed them how crayons and watercolors interact and many enjoyed this resist technique in their works. They are truly off to a fantastic start! Fourth graders started the year off with self-portraits! They learned about master artist Mary Cassatt and the Impressionist Art Style & Movement. We talked about the various ways that students could render and portray themselves. I have to say that I am so IMPRESSED with their first efforts. Their self-portraits reflect their personalities in wonderful ways!! I am so grateful to their amazing art teachers Mrs. Blum & Ms. Kearney for everything they have been taught. I can't wait to continue helping my new artists flourish! Enjoy these beautiful creations!!
