Congratulations to the following 4th & 5th Grade Johnson School students who were named district winners in this year’s Recycle Poster contest. The winners were honored on March 24, at 7 p.m. at the Bethel Board of Education meeting. All the children received a ribbon from Dr. Smith and Mr. Craybas, and were celebrated by school administrators, their teachers, and families. In 4th Grade, Amel Hilmi (1st place), Miranda Anastasakis (2nd), and Melany Villavicencio (3rd). In 5th Grade Julia Krepsztul (1st place), Erin Meier (2nd), and Sonia Goyal (3rd). In addition, Julia and Amel were also a regional winners and were honored at the Regional Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, at the Union Savings Bank in Danbury. Great job everyone, and thank you for the excellent participation!! On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Johnson School's Fifth Grader, Julia Krepsztul and Fourth Grader, Amel Hilmi, were both honored at the Regional HRRA ceremony for the Annual Recycle Poster contest. Julia won 1st place honors at her grade level for the region and was awarded a certificate, gift, and a $75 money prize. Amel won Honorable Mention in her grade level, and received a certificate, and gift. Their posters were selected among 2,557 participants and 11 municipalities. Their posters and all other district winners are to be displayed in full color in Sunday NewsTimes. Way to go Julia and Amel !! Johnson School 5th grader, Lauren P., was honored today at the Annual Fire Prevention Poster Recognition Awards luncheon in Cromwell CT. Out of 20,000 participants, Lauren's poster was one of 32 County Winners, earning her a $150 money prize and awards certificate. Lauren, her family, Mrs. McCue, Mrs. Trzcinski, and Bethel's Fire Marshal Mr. Tom Galliford all enjoyed celebrating this wonderful achievement. The spring session for after school art will be on Tuesdays beginning after spring break. This is a great opportunity for kids to enjoy being creative, while strengthening friendships and building new ones too!

On Monday, March 17, 2014, Johnson School had the pleasure of participating in the 14th Annual Celebration of the Arts, at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, CT. The Connecticut Association of Schools has developed this wonderful opportunity for elementary schools to recognize and honor students with outstanding citizenship, cooperative skills, and artistic ability in the performing and/or visual arts. Our school honorees are fifth graders Jake Ferris and Drew Cousens. Jake and Drew are extraordinary students with outstanding skills in art and music. They are admirable individuals who are fair, honest, kind, compassionate, and helpful. They often exceed the expectations of their teachers and they are terrific role models for their peers. Mrs. McCue, Ms. Carpentier, Ms. Mohr, Mrs. Galante, Ms. Zafrin, Mrs. Jardim, Ms. Berescik, and the student's families attended this wonderful event to celebrate the efforts and achievements of these two fine individuals. Congratulations to you both! March is Youth Art Month, and is a time when educators across the nation promote the visual arts and art education in our country. Congratulations to the following Ralph M.T. Johnson School students, Brianna Russo, Tyler Lombardi, Virginia Steen, Melanie Villaviciencio, and Perri Englund, who have each had an outstanding work of art selected to be a part of the 2014 Connecticut Art Educator’s Association Youth Art Celebration. The CAEA Youth Art Celebration is a K-12 art show for all students in Connecticut. Their work will be on display at the West Woods Upper Elementary School in Farmington CT from March 3- March 21, 2014. The show reception is Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 1 – 3 p.m. Congratulations to 5th Grader, Lauren Pruner, whose Fire Prevention Poster entry has been honored as a Fairfield County winner!! Her poster will be in the 2015 Fire Prevention Calendar, and she has also won a $200 savings bond. Lauren, her teacher, and family are invited to the Award Presentation Luncheon on Wednesday March 27, in Cromwell. At the conclusion of the luncheon the State Poster Winner will be announced. Johnson School students will once again have the opportunity to participate in the national Doodle 4 Google contest. The theme this year is "If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place..." The grand prize winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.
